Description

Sildenafil is a popular erectile dysfunction (ED) pill taken by men who have trouble getting an erection on their own. It is the generic version of Viagra, which means that it contains exactly the same active ingredient (sildenafil citrate) and works in the same way. Sildenafil is available in three different strengths: 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. If you are considering taking sildenafil but are not sure what dose is right for you

Uses

Sildenafil is used to treat male sexual function problems (impotence or erectile dysfunction-ED). When combined with sexual stimulation, Sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help a man get and maintain an erection. This medicine does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis). Practice safe sex like using latex condoms. For more details, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

The dosage depends on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you are taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

· Diarrhea

· Flushing (feeling of warmth)

· Nosebleeds

Precautions

To make sure sildenafil is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

· Heart problems (chest pain, abnormal heart rhythm, heart attack)

· High or low blood pressure circulation problems retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited eye disease).

· Blindness in one or both eyes; bleeding problems;

· Stomach ulcers; pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (pvod); liver or kidney disease;

· A blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia,

· Multiple myeloma or leukaemia;

· A physical deformity of the penis (such as peyronie's disease);

· Take this medicine only once in a day and do not take overdose

· In case if you miss one dose, take the dose immediately when you realise it

or if you have been told not to have sex for health reasons.

Interaction

If you are also taking alpha-blocker medications (such as doxazosin, tamsulosin) to treat enlarged prostate/BPH or high blood pressure, your blood pressure may drop too low and cause dizziness or fainting. Your doctor may start you on a lower sildenafil dose to minimize the risk of low blood pressure. Other medications can affect the removal of sildenafil from your body, which can affect how sildenafil works. Examples include azole antifungals (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole). macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, erythromycin), HIV protease inhibitors (such as ritonavir, saquinavir), hepatitis C virus protease inhibitors (such as boceprevir, telaprevir), mifepristone, rifampicin, and others.
